Employment for Nurses in Finland is disappointing. The average number of nurses working is just 8.4 per 1000 population. This number of nurses practicing is well below Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) value. Sometimes there are number of nurses who are unemployed as the healthcare organization or hospitals doesn’t have any specific role or job description for them in this side of the country. As the country lacks details and database of the number of nurses, these figures are unreliable. Biotechnology serve as an important sector in Finland economy and wellbeing. This is one most booming high technology science branch in Finland. Many Biotech companies and hi-tech starts up have been set up in this country in the last 10 years. The investment in this sector has been gradually increased since the year 2005. This is all because of the bill passes by the Finland Government in 1996 to allocate funds for science and technology. The main aim of this reform was to increase the country R & D input to GDP of 2.9 by 1999. Today the figure has climbed to 3.1 percent and out of all the R & D funding and investments 68% is funded by private sector and 32% by Government. Till date there are over 180 Biotech companies out of which 75% were established in the year 1998. The total turnover these companies till 2005 was around Euro 900 million and with around 6,000 people working in this sector. Now this figure has grown exponentially to Euro 1,245,111 million and 10,000 respectively.
The global pharma sales reached 1000 Billion USD the year 2010 as it grew by 10% from the previous year. The Finland Pharma sector is referred to be the fourth pillar in the country economy. The prediction holds true that the numbers of employee in this sector will double itself by the year 2010. The wholesale of Pharma product has increased by 9.9% from the previous year and thus reaching a value of around 1681 Million Euro. This rise is a result of increase in funding and demand on higher international quality and product. The collaboration between Academy of Finland and National Agency of Finland has played an important role for not only sponsoring the pharma sector but also initiating joint program across the countries which helped the sector to boom.
Medical or healthcare sector in Finland is publicly funded and although the main decision making authority like Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, the local government are responsible to provide healthcare and medical to their respective residents. The Finland Healthcare and Medical sector is regarded as good according to the 2000 survey published by European Commission. 88 % of the total Finland population is satisfied with their healthcare sector and thus it comes in the top 5 countries who are most satisfied. The healthcare sector and export in Finland grew to 8.3% with total amount going up to 1.8 Billion Euro in 2105.
