Alongside other industries like flax, engineering, iron foundries, printing, and many others emerged parallel. It has been established as the commercial as well as cultural and financial heart of the West Yorkshire Urban Area . Leeds is counted as the largest legal centre in the UK only after London which comprises over 30 national and international banks in the city.
