Ufa is one of the major cities in Russia, the capital of Bashkortostan Republic. It is one of the biggest economic, cultural, sports, religious, and scientific centers of the country, an important transport hub, located about 1,340 km southeast of Moscow. It is also the only city connected with Moscow by two federal highways. The southern outskirts of the city is crossed by the highway M5 Ural and the federal highway M7 Volga ends here. Ufa is a large transport hub of Russia. The Trans-Siberian Railway runs through the city. Ufa is the home city for the ice hockey club Salavat Yulayev - a participant of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). The climate is temperate continental. Summers are warm, winters are moderately cold and long. This city, located at the confluence of the Ufa and Belaya rivers, is one of the largest industrial centers in Russia.

There are 11 independent state institutions of university level higher education train specialists on 169 directions and specialties comes under in Ufa and in the Republic of Bashkortostan. The general number of students of higher educational institutions is more than 50 thousand people. 76 educational institutions of non-university level higher education train students on 109 directions. Ufa is the home city for the ice hockey club and at the outskirts of the city there is a system of 20 natural caves formed as a result of mining of gypsum.

Prices for drugs in Russia will increase by 10%-15% this year, which, however will be significantly lower than in 2015, when the price hikes was equivalent to 22.8%, compared to the previous year, according to data of the Russian Federal State Statistics Service, According to preliminary data of DSM Group, one of Russia’s leading analyst agencies in the field of pharmaceutical sector, in 2015 the Russian pharmaceutical market grew by almost 12%, compared to 2014 - to 1.28 trillion roubles ($16.5 billion), in value terms. According to the analysts, the market increase was mainly due to inflation and the ever growing drug prices.

According to experts, true needed volume of specialized medical care (cardio surgery, knee and hip joint replacement, neurosurgery etc.) in Russia cannot be accurately estimated for many reasons and it is possibly 25-30 times greater than the actual medical care provided.
